Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Come Join DOH-Team Duval!  If you are looking to establish an exciting and successful career in Public Health, you have come to the right place.  Many of our innovative and successful health programs are recognized throughout Florida. This position is responsible for providing dental services including examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, and care of conditions within the human oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures, including emergency, surgical, preventive and restorative dental care to clients of the Florida Department of Health in Duval County. Performs diagnostic, preventive, restorative, and surgical procedures within the scope of the dental practice act. Develops treatment plans and maintains treatment records in accordance with the dental practice act. Coordinates and directs the clinical portion of dental services provided by the department. Monitors quality of care to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. This individual assures compliance of all dental record documentation with federal and state law and with Florida Department of Health-Bureau of Dental Program expectations. Works independently and makes decisions based on analysis of data and knowledge of dental practice. Maintains skills and completes on-going training to maintain active license in accordance with the dental practice act.

 

Supports the Dental Executive Director in providing guidance regarding the professional work of dental assistants, hygienists and dental hygiene students including assisting in the performance evaluation process.

 

Work includes promotion and establishment of population-based dental preventive and educational programs and related dental public health activities. Collaborates with the Dental Executive Director to promote community-based preventive educational programs. Provides consultative and technical assistance to public and private entities regarding oral health issues.

 

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. All employees are expected to complete timesheets and EARs/DARs as required, both accurately and within the required timeframe. All employees are expected to complete mandatory trainings within the required timeframe, as deemed necessary by the Department, the Delegated Authority, grant requirements and/or Florida Statutes. Incumbent may have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties. Incumbent may be required to work at other clinics as needed (mileage and travel time will not be paid).

  • Education and Training – Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, design of individual development plans, and test design principles
  • Biology – Knowledge of plant and animal living tissue, cells, organisms, and entities, including their functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment
  • Computer – Knowledge of computer software including applications.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a licensure as a Dentist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes.
